Men's tennis picks up win in 2026 opener

STERLING – The Augustana Vikings men's tennis team opened the 2026 schedule with a 5–2 win over the Milwaukee School of Engineering on Saturday. 

Milwaulkee jumped out early by winning two of the three doubles matches, giving the Raiders a 1–0 advantage heading into singles play. Augustana's lone doubles win came at the No. 1 spot, where Aingeru Garcia and Jorge Marcelo Escribano earned a 6–4 victory. 

The Vikings responded in singles competition, winning five of the six matches. At No. 1, Saman Rezaeyan secured a straight-set win, 7–5, 6–4. Santiago Lazo dropped the first set at No. 2 but bounced back to win the next two, 6–2, before closing out the match in a super tiebreak. Garcia added another point for Augustana at No. 5 with a 6–4, 6–4 win. Facundo Feldman followed with a victory at No. 6, winning the first set 7–5 before his opponent was forced to retire. 

Pedro Nunes sealed the team victory at No. 4. After losing the opening set, he battled through two tight tiebreakers to win the final two sets and clinch the match. 

Augustana continues opening weekend on Sunday, February 1, against Southwestern Illinois. First serve is scheduled for 9 a.m.
