Men's and women's swimming & diving teams conquer Wheaton on senior day

ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings men's and women's swimming & diving teams secured wins over the Wheaton Thunder on Saturday. The men's team earned a 140-100 victory, while the women's team secured a 119-111 win. 

The men kicked the meet off with the top two finishes in the 200-yard medley relay, with Ceasr Castillo, Matthew Meyer, Jake McCormack, and Lucas Rettig sealing first with a time of 1:32.24. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Tyler Leslie, Bjorn Sievert, Emanuel Anguelov, and Rettig touched first at 1:26.33.

In individual events, Anguelov touched first in the 200-yard freestyle, clocking 1:43.55. In the 50-yard free, Augie grabbed spots two through six. Castillo finished second in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:00.44, and Michael Garland followed at 2:04.55 to place third. In the 100-yard fly, Anguelov touched second with a time of 53.75, and Elliot Martillo followed at 54.12 for third. Leslie was victorious in the 100-yard free with a time of 46.09, while Oskar Bannister finished second at 47.88, and Mark Addison touched third at 47.94. 

In the 100-yard backstroke, Trentin Lechleitner touched first with a time of 54.10, while Rettig finished third at 54.70. Alejandro Jacob clocked in a time of 1:00.29 in the 100-yard breaststroke to place first, while Garland followed at 1:01.17 for second. In the 1000-yard freestyle, Leslie touched second with a time of 9:52.25, while Matteo Graham earned a time of 10:43.25 for fourth, and Max Nord finished second at 11:02.88. 

In the diving well, Ronin Araucto placed second with a final score of 194.15 in the one-meter diving, while Tyler Steinberg followed with 150.25 for third, and Ben Polyak earned a score of 135.50 to finish fourth. In the three-meter event, Ryan DeLand came out victorious with a final score of 251.40.

Sophia Warren, Caitlin Stoddard, Mya Pheneger, and Kendle Mihm finished first in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:40.96. 

In individual events, Kendle Mihm sailed through the 50-yard freestyle with a final time of 24.77. Savannah Shapley touched second in the 200-yard individual medley at 2:20.97, and Ava Kauffeld followed at 2:23.09 to place third. In the 100-yard fly, Charlotte Vogen finished second with a time of 1:02.60. Mihm also conquered the 100-yard free with a time of 53.94, while Mya Pheneger followed with a time of 57.01, and Sophia Warren touched third at 57.44.

In the 100-yard backstroke, Natalie Salazar touched first at 1:02.82, while Kylee Blaha finished third at 1:04.95. Petra Evans finished first in the 500-yard free with Makenzie Rusco following with a time of 5:49.55, and Delaney Hummel at 5:52.49. In the 100-yard breaststroke, Kauffeld touched second with a time of 1:13.89, and Livy Sholl followed in third with a time of 1:14.52, and Emma McVicker placed fourth at 1:16.88. Mara Walker finished second in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 12:00.82, while Sammie Knox followed at 12:18.68. 

In the diving competition, Kate Kucera placed second with a final score of 160.00 for the one-meter diving event. 

The diving team will be back in action for the CCIW Championships on Feb. 13-14, while the swimming teams head to the championships on Feb. 18-21.
