Women's bowling sees multiple season best averages at D3 Invite

LANSING, Mich. -- The Augustana Vikings women's bowling team finished fifth out of 10 teams at the D3 Invite on Saturday with a 5-4 record. 

Day one was the Baker matchups, where Augie picked up wins against MSOE, Aurora, and Carthage. Augustana dropped the first round against Hilbert 885-858 before securing a big win over Aurora with a score of 1,007-846. In round three, the Vikings fell to the tournament champions by a score of 911-868. Augie closed out Baker format with a 821-766 win over Carthage and closed out the day with a 956-713 victory against MSOE to earn a 3-2 record after day one. 

In the traditional play on day two, the Vikings sealed another 3-2 record with wins against Elmhurst, Penn State-Behrend, and a best-of-seven baker match against Elmhurst. In the first round, Augie fell to Marian 972-887 before defeating Penn State-Behrend 883-866. Augustana conquered Elmhurst once again by a score of 895-852 and closed the event with a loss to William Smith 969-885. 

Molly Singleton led the Vikings with a total of 742 pins in four games, with a game high of 211 to finish 17th out of 74 athletes. Ana Zeglis followed in 21st with a score of 726, with a high of 239 in game two. Cassie Kontos placed in the top-25 with a total score of 721 and earned a game high of 198. Other placements for Augie were Anna Ricci (704), Kathryn Edwards (541), and Laurin Jacobs, who bowled one game for 106 pins. 

The Vikings will be back in action on Feb. 14-15 to host the Viking Classic at TBK Sports Complex.
