ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings women's tennis team collected a 4-3 win in its first home match of the season on Saturday over the North Park Vikings.
The doubles point went in favor of Augie after the Vikings picked up wins in two of the three matches.
Hannah Colbert and
Anna-Maria Huebel won a 6-0 decision at the No. 1 spot, while
Kassidy Anderson and
Maddy Harned were victorious at No. 3 by a score of 6-0. Augustana led 1-0 entering singles play.
Natasha Gauerke found success with a straight-set win at No. 3 by a final of 6-3 and 6-4. Harned clinched the win with a dominant third set at No. 4 with scores of 6-1, 3-6, and 6-3. In the No. 6 spot, Anderson earned the win in straight sets with scores of 6-3, 6-0.
"Overall, today was a very competitive meet with close matches," said coach
David DeSimone. "It's a meet that we will get better from, and we are all excited to get the team win to start conference play."
With the win, Augie begins the season with a 0-1 record. The team will be back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 10, to battle Elmhurst.
