Women's volleyball falls to Coe

Box Score CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- The Augustana Vikings women's volleyball team fell to the Coe Kohawks on Friday in three sets.

In the first set, Coe took the early lead, but Augie hung around until a four-point run moved the Kohawks up 12-5. The Vikings found six consecutive points with a kill by Grace Gustafson, closing the differential to two. Both teams remained neck and neck until Coe grabbed the final five points to take the first set 25-18. 

The Kohawks secured the advantage after a 4-1 run to begin the second set. A successful attack by Lanah Queckboerner moved the score within one, but Coe followed with the next three points. Augie found seven consecutive points to tie the game at 13-13 after an attack error by the home team. Both teams drew even four additional times before Coe secured the upper hand after three consecutive points. The Vikings moved the score to as close as one three different times after two errors by the Kohawks, and a kill by Gustafson, but Coe took the second set to lead 2-0 overall. 

Early in the third set, both teams went back and forth with points until a 6-1 break gave Coe an 11-4 lead. Later in the game, the Vikings scored three consecutive points, with a successful kill by Elle Jones narrowing the gap to one at 15-14. Augie stayed close until a late six-point run closed out the final set 25-16. 

Gustafson led the team with nine kills, while Leah Rizzo notched 12 assists and eight digs. 

With the loss, Augie moves to 2-3 on the season and will be back in action next Friday to host the two-day Viking Classic.
