Maurice Fleming named assistant coach for men's and women's wrestling

ROCK ISLAND -- Head men's and women's coach Tony Willaert has announced the addition of Maurice Fleming as the programs' assistant coach.

Fleming boasts an illustrious career as both a wrestler and a coach, beginning with his high school days when he was a three-time state champion in Maryland. While at Northeast High School, he compiled a 132-11 overall record and was a three-time All-American. Fleming ended the 2007-08 season ranked sixth in the nation by Amateur Wrestling News and 10th by Wrestling International Newsmagazine. He finished in third place at the 2007 NHSCA Junior Nationals and was ranked 60th overall by InterMat in its list of top recruits for 2008-09. Fleming went on to compete at the NCAA Division I level at George Mason University.

"Adding Maurice to our staff is a tremendous step forward for our program," said Willaert. "He brings valuable experience, energy, and a true commitment to developing young men both on and off the mat. We're thrilled to have him join our programs as we continue building toward National Championship success."

Most recently, Fleming has been coaching for both the Maryland National Freestyle and Greco teams since 2021. He has Has officiated on many different levels including youth, high school, college, and freestyle and Greco.
