AUSTIN, Texas -- Augustana's
Charlotte Frere has been named a College Sports Communicators (CSC) First Team Academic All-American for the second year in a row, the organization announced Tuesday morning. She is the 187th all-time selection for Augustana and the 18th for the women's track & field program.
A junior from Preemption, Ill. and a Biology and Kinesiology double major, Frere won her second straight national title this past outdoor season in the discus. She entered action at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships as the nation's top seed and remained atop the field from the start. Battling the wind and rain, Frere threw 46.69m in her first attempt and followed it up with a toss of 46.87m, which remained the furthest distance through five rounds. Entering the sixth and final throw, Frere was the last to go and just needed her 46.87m mark to hold up. Five others drew scratches and the closest distance came in second place at just under 46 meters. Frere closed out the event with a throw of 48.35m to up her final winning mark. Indoor and outdoor combined, Frere owns the fifth national title for the Augustana women's track & field program and the fourth during outdoor season. She is the first-ever women's track & field student-athlete at Augustana to win two national championships after also taking the 2024 title in the same event.Â
Leading up to nationals, Frere had a successful season as a whole. In May, Frere was crowned the USTFCCCA Women's Field Athlete of the Year for the Midwest Region and earlier in the year posted a discus toss of 53.10m, which currently sits as the No. 3 furthest throw in Division III history and the best mark in the event in 23 years. Her throw of 49.83m at the CCIW Championships notched her first conference title by over four meters.
Frere is the first Augustana student-athlete to appear on the First Team list in back-to-back years since Hannah Lohmeier (women's soccer) did it in 2015 and 2016.
