Five women recognized on CSC Academic All-District team for track & field

GREENWOOD, Ind. -- Five Vikings on the Augustana Vikings women's track and field team have been named to the College Sports Communicators track & field/cross country Academic All-District teams, the organization announced Tuesday. McKenzie Reser, Heather Michalski, Charlotte Frere, Cora Deemer, and Jordyn Van Santen were the five women honored. 

Reser, a senior from Sycamore, Ill., is a three-time All-District honoree and graduated with a Political Science degree this spring. The senior grabbed several conference titles this season and was also the national runner-up in the 400m at both the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships. Reser notched three All-American runs at indoor nationals and two at the outdoor meet and departs Augustana with 12 school records set.

Michalski a senior from Batavia, Ill., graduated with a degree in Biology-Pre-Veterinary and Studio Art at Augie, is a three-time recipient of this award. The senior earned All-Conference in both the Indoor and Outdoor seasons in the javelin throw. Michalski was also named All-Region and All-American in javelin. During the indoor season, she notched a top 20 placement in shot put. 

Frere, a junior thrower from Preemption, Ill., is a Biology and Kinesiology major at Augustana. The junior is a two-time national title winner in the discus throw at the Outdoor National Championships. The All-American and All-Conference honoree is now a two-time All-District honoree. In May, Frere was crowned the USTFCCCA women's field Athlete of the Year for the Midwest Region and was named to the All-Region list after winning her second straight national championship.

Deemer, a sophomore from Bloomington, Ind., majors in MJMC and Graphic Design with a minor in Anthropology at Augie. The sophomore posted an All-CCIW run in the 100m and was a part of the 4x100 relay and 4x400 relay that set a new meet record and finished first. Deemer closed the season with a lifetime best and top 100 time in the country in the 100m and placed fourth in the 200m.

Van Santen, a sophomore from Forest Park, Ill., is an Environmental Studies and Film major with a minor in GIST. The sophomore collected All-Conference in both the indoor and outdoor CCIW Championship competitions in the 4x400 and 4x100 relays. 

Frere, Reser, and Michalski will advance to the Academic All-American national voting ballot.
