ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings men's tennis team was defeated in the championship match of the CCIW Tournament on Saturday, falling to the top-seeded North Central Cardinals by a score of 4-1.
North Central claimed the doubles point following wins at the No. 1 and 2 slots. Augie's
Timothee Philip and
Saman Rezaeyan were leading in their match at No. 3, but the Cardinals earned the 1-0 lead entering singles play.
The Cardinals added to their advantage with a win at No. 1 singles to make it a 2-0 contest, but
Santiago Diaz got one back for the Vikings with a 6-1-, 6-4 decision at No. 3. A close battle went in favor of the visitors at No. 2 for their third point before sealing the match with a win at No. 5.
David Larraga won his first set at No. 4 by a score of 7-5 and was one game away from earning a victory in the second before the match ended.
Augustana ends the season with a 14-5 overall record.
