PEORIA, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings men's golf team wrapped up the three-day CCIW Championships on Saturday in sixth place out of nine teams with a final score of 900.
On Thursday, Sam Evenson led Augie in a tie for 13th after hitting 74 on the day to sit two over par. Jacob Brokaw and Kevin Cortez followed in a seven-way tie for 19th with a first-round score of 76. Patrick McGrath sat in a tie for 28th with a score of 78 on day one, while Drake Stoudt was two strokes behind in a two-way tie for 37th.
On day two, Evenson advanced to a tie for ninth after hitting one under par with a score of 71 for a total of 145. Brokaw shot 76 for the second day in a row to move to 21st for a total score of 152. Cortez and McGrath followed in a four-way tie for 27th with a score of 154. Cortez hit 78 on the day, while McGrath obtained 76. Stoudt collected a round two score of 75 to sit in a tie for 31st with a total of 155.
On the final day, Evenson advanced two places to earn All-Conference honors with a seventh-place finish. The senior hit 73 on the day with a birdie on his third hole to sit one over par in round three. He finished the event with a total score of 218 with seven birdies and an eagle to become the second straight men's golfer to finish in the top 10 for Augie. McGrath jumped seven placements to sit alongside Brokaw in a tie for 20th with a final score of 227. McGrath hit 73 in the final round and obtained five birdies and an eagle. Brokaw hit 75 in round three and finished with six birdies.
Cortez placed 31st after shooting 75 on the day for a final score of 231. The sophomore secured seven birdies over the three-day event. Stoudt closed out the event in 33rd place with a final round score of 70 to obtain a score of 234. The junior closed out the competition with nine birdies.
Additionally, Adam Soczka was named the recipient of the CCIW RESPECT award.
