GENEVA, Ohio -- For the second straight season,
Charlotte Frere is a national champion.
Frere entered Thursday's action at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships as the nation's top seed in the discus event and remained atop the field from the start. Battling the wind and rain, Frere threw 46.69m in her first attempt and followed it up with a toss of 46.87m, which remained the furthest distance through five rounds. Entering the sixth and final throw, Frere was the last to go and just needed her 46.87m mark to hold up. Five others drew scratches and the closest distance came in second place at just under 46 meters. Frere closed out the event with a throw of 48.35m to up her final winning mark.Â
Indoor and outdoor combined, Frere now owns the fifth national title for the Augustana women's track & field program and the fourth during outdoor season. She is the first-ever women's track & field student-athlete at Augustana to win two national championships.
