PEORIA, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings men's golf team has been voted to finish sixth in the upcoming CCIW Championships on May 1-3 at WeaverRidge Golf Club in Peoria, Ill.
The Vikings earned 34 points to sit 14 points ahead of North Park in seventh and seven points behind North Central in fifth. Last season, the men finished third in the CCIW Championship, marking the first time the Vikings finished in the top three since the 2003-04 season.
Augie enters the weekend after conquering the Viking Invitational for the second year in a row with a final score of 579, tying a two-day record that was set in 2005. Alexandre Thery came out on top with a total of 143 with round scores of 72 and 71. Thery birdied five of his final 10 holes, including the last to win by a single stroke. Jacob Brokaw followed in a three-way tie for second after shooting even par on both days for a final score of 144. Drake Stoudt tallied six birdies on Sunday to surge into fifth with a final score of 145. Sam Evenson followed in sixth after shooting 73 on both days for a score of 146. Elias Evander clinched a tie for eighth after shooting 71 on Saturday and 76 in round two for a final score of 147.
