ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings men's golf team claimed first place out of nine teams over the weekend at the Viking Invitational with a final score of 579, tying a two-day record that was set in 2005. The Augustana B team tied for third with a score of 599. Augustana's C team hit 602 for a tie in fifth and the D team scored 614 for seventh.
Alexandre Thery came out on top with a total of 143 with round scores of 72 and 71. Thery birdied five of his final 10 holes, including the last to win by a single stroke. Jacob Brokaw followed in a three-way tie for second after shooting even par on both days for a final score of 144. Drake Stoudt tallied six birdies on Sunday to surge into fifth with a final score of 145. Sam Evenson followed in sixth after shooting 73 on both days for a score of 146. Elias Evander clinched a tie for eighth after shooting 71 on Saturday and 76 in round two for a final score of 147.Â
Thomas Fornelli, Patrick McGrath, Noah Ehlenbach, and Teague Mayer tied for 11th with a total score of 148. Fornelli shot 77 and 71, while McGrath hit 70 and 78 over the weekend. Ehlenbach and Mayer both obtained 74 on both days. Kevin Cortez and Justin Goebel clinched a top-20 placement at 17th with a score of 149. Cortez hit round scores of 75 and 74, while Goebel secured 73 and 76 over the weekend.Â
Other scores for Augie were Oscar van Dongen (152), Adam Soczka (152), Mason Weigle (154), Rodrigo Sanchez-Serrano (155), Ryan Crowe (156), Aiden Salcedo (156), Jakob Stefanowicz (158), Steven Kitzman (158), Rodrigo Faundez-Sanchez (158), Luke Petersen (158), Trace Donnan (161), Andrew Reishus (163), and Tyler Bayston (170).
McGrath shot two under par on Saturday, while Evander, Thery, Fornelli shot one under par and Brokaw shot even par on both days.Â
The Vikings will be back in action on May 1-3 for the three-day CCIW Championship in Peoria, Ill. at WeaverRidge Golf Club.
