COCOA BEACH, Fla. -- The Augustana Vikings women's tennis team dropped the first game of its spring break trip in Florida on Tuesday, falling to the Freed-Hardeman Lions by a score of 5-2.
All three doubles matches wen in favor of the Lions to give them the early 1-0 lead entering singles play. Augie saw wins in the top two slots, including a consecutive-set victory from
Hannah Colbert at No. 1 by a score of 6-2, 6-4.
Maripaz Ramirez earned the other win for the Vikings at the No. 2 position, bouncing back from a first-set defeat to win in three. After dropping the opener 6-4, Ramirez downed her opponent in the second with a final of 7-5 before clinching the match with a 10-6 tiebreaker win. Freed-Hardeman won the other four contests to conclude the 5-2 team decision.
With the loss, Augustana falls to 4-8 on the season. The team will be back in action tomorrow to face Union (N.Y.).
