Five Vikings place at QC D3 Invite

ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings women's wrestling team finished the two-day Quad Cities D3 Invite on Sunday in ninth place out of 26 teams, with five individuals in the top eight of their respective weight classes.

Angie Guy and Sawyer Graham finished in the top five of their weight divisions. Guy placed fifth in the 207 category to secure 16.5 team points, while Graham scored 15.5 points with a fifth-place finish in the 180 category. Guy moved to the consolation bracket after round one, where she pinned her opponent from Lakeland before two wins by forfeit. The junior dropped the consolation semifinals to move to the fifth-place matchup where she pinned her opponent from Otterbein. 

Graham started her day with a bye prior to a 10-0 technical fall against UW-Oshkosh. In the quarterfinals, the senior pinned her foe from Aurora and moved to the consolation bracket after the semifinals. Graham moved to the fifth-place match after dropping the consolation semifinals, where she pinned her opponent from Simpson. 

Aine Moffit finished sixth in the 145-weight division to earn 13 team points. Moffit began her weekend with a bye and a pin over Simpson in round two. The junior fell in the quarterfinals to move to the consolation bracket where she pinned her foe from Albion. In round five of the consolation bracket, Moffit secured a 6-1 decision to advance to the semifinals, where she dropped her final two performances. 

Maryam Ndiaye earned 9.5 team points after a seventh-place standing in the 145 weight class. Ndiaye obtained a 10-0 technical fall in her first round against UW-Stevens Point but moved to the consolation bracket after round two. In the first round of the consolation bracket, the freshman notched two decisions over Cornell. Ndiaye then secured an 8-2 decision in the seventh-place match. 

In the 124-weight division, Sandie Pfeil finished eighth with 10 team points. In round one, Pfeil converted a 10-0 technical fall before moving to the consolation bracket. In the second round of the consolation matches, the senior secured a 12-6 decision over Schreiner before back-to-back technical falls against Schreiner and Simpson. Pfiel dropped her final two contests to finish in eighth. 

The Vikings will be back in action on Sunday, February 23 for the NCWWC Regionals at Luther Hill Wrestling Center in Indianola, Iowa.
