Box Score 2 ASHWAUBENON, Wis. -- The Augustana Vikings men's tennis team picked up two wins to begin their stay at the St. Norbert Invite on Saturday, defeating the Hamline Pipers by a score of 5-2 before taking down the UW-Superior Yellowjackets, 6-1.
Against Hamline, the Vikings swept doubles action to win the point and bring a 1-0 lead into singles.
Arthur Hermange and
David Larraga made quick work of their opponents at the No. 1 position with a 6-0 triumph, while the teams of
Gabriel Luna/
Nicolas Navarro and
Aingeru Garcia/
Santiago Diaz each won their respective matches by a final of 6-3.
In singles play, Augie collected wins in four the six contests.
Timothee Philip coasted to a win in the No. 5 slot with a final of 6-0, 6-2, while Navarro at No. 3 and Diaz at No. 6 also won in consecutive sets.
Saman Rezaeyan at No. 4 and Luna at No. 1 each won in three sets to help complete the win for the Vikings.
In the second match of the day vs. UW-Superior, the Vikings again swept through doubles play, this time seeing a pair of 6-1 decisions from Hermange/Larraga at No. 1 and
Gustavo Fontenelle/
Grant Meyers at No. 3. Philip and Rezaeyan squeaked out a 7-5 victory at No. 2 to wrap up the 3-0 effort in doubles. Augie led 1-0 entering singles competition.
In singles, all five wins for Augie came in straight sets. Hermange, Rezaeyan, and Philip all posted their second singles win of the day at No. 1, 3 and 4, while
Kay Woldringh Castillo and and Meyers rounded out the win with victories at No. 5 and 6.
With the results, Augustana improves to 3-1 on the season. The team will be back in action tomorrow to battle St. Norbert.
