WHEATON, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings men's wrestling team finished 15th out of 30 teams at the Pete Willson Invitational on Saturday with 36 team points.
Josh Woodrey was the top individual placer for Augie with a second-place finish in the 285 weight class. In his first round, Woodrey pinned his opponent from UW-Platteville before an 11-8 decision against UW-Lacrosse. In the quarterfinals, the senior obtained an 8-2 decision versus UW-Eau Claire and followed with a 4-1 decision over Concordia (Wis.) to move to the championship. Woodrey dropped the first-place matchup to the No. 2 ranked wrestler in the nation from Ferrum.
Jacob Badger finished seventh in the 197 weight division, starting his day with a bye before moving to the consolation bracket. In his first round of the consolation bracket, the senior grabbed a 16-4 major decision against Concordia (Wis.) and an 11-0 major decision over Rhode Island. Badger moved on after a medical forfeit and fell in round five to Cornell. The senior clinched seventh with a 17-6 major decision against Messiah.
The Vikings will be back in action on February 14-15 for the CCIW Championships in Decatur, Ill.
