ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings men's wrestling team split the Augustana Triangular on Tuesday. The Vikings fell to the MSOE Raiders by a score of 23-12 before defeating the Illinois Wesleyan Titans 39-16.
MSOE took the early lead before
Tyson Bruce collected an 18-11 decision in the 133 weight class to draw the score even at 3-3. The Raiders collected the next two categories before
Gianni Panozzo secured a 6-2 decision at 157.
Noah DeMarco squashed the gap two-one at 10-9 after a 9-8 decision in the 165 weight class. MSOE pulled ahead once more after conquering the 179 and 184 divisions, and
Braiden Young grabbed a 4-2 decision over the No. 6-ranked opponent. The Raiders claimed the heavyweight bracket to seal the 23-12 victory.
In the matchup against Illinois Wesleyan, the Titans took the early lead after securing the first two weight categories.
Matt Lucansky followed with a pin in the 141 division before
Trevion Gilford secured a 7-5 decision at 149.
Gianni Panozzo,
Noah DeMarco, and
Jack Miller pinned their respective foes to pull ahead 27-10. Illinois Wesleyan took the 184 weight class, and
Conor Phelan pinned his opponent in the 197 class.
Teke Nieto closed the night with a forfeit to secure the 39-16 win.
With the split, Augie moves to 1-3 on the season and will be back in action on Saturday, Dec. 6, for the UW-La Crosse Duals.
