Box Score 2 NORTON, Mass. -- The Augustana Vikings finished Day One at MPSF Weekend II with wins over the Penn State Behrend Lions and Connecticut College by scores of 17-7 and 14-12, respectively.
In a decisive matchup at the Balfour Natatorium in Norton, MA, the #9 Augustana Vikings overwhelmed the Penn State Behrend Lions with a final score of 17-7 in MPSF action. The game showcased Augustana's offensive prowess as they consistently found the back of the net throughout the contest.
Augustana took an early lead, scoring three goals in the first period, with
Oskar Bannister scoring a penalty in the 7
th minute,
Rhys Lomax adding one off an assist from
James Davis, and
Stevan Rasic adding one less than a minute later off a
Ronin Araucto assist. Â Augustana would finish the first up 3-1.
The second period saw the Vikings extend their lead, with
Carter Meier netting in the first minute off a Lomax assist. After a Lions response, Bannister was set up by
Ben Symington and buried one to make the score 5-2. Meier would find another on a penalty shot to extend it to 6-2. The Lions would net one with less than a minute to go, but so would Augustana as
Alden Brinkmeier buried one to make it 7-3. The Lions would find another before the end of the second to make it 7-4 in favor of the Vikings.
Augustana continued its dominant performance in the third period, scoring five goals, including contributions from
Ian Palmroos at the 6:31 mark. Up 8-4, the teams would trade goals, with the score at 10-6. Bannister would get another to extend the lead at the 2:54 mark before Meier netted one off a
Mason Landes assist.
In the final period, Augustana sealed its victory with an opener from Meier assisted by Landes, three goals from
Mark Addison, and one from Brinkmeier. Kroh managed to score once more for Penn State Behrend, but it wasn't enough to close the gap. After
Ian Palmroos buried one with less than a minute to go, the match concluded with Augustana claiming a convincing 17-7 win.
In a closely contested match, the No. 9 Augustana Vikings defeated the Connecticut Camels 14-12. Augustana opened strong, leading 5-1 at the end of the first period with multiple goals from Bannister and Brinkmeier. Addison would add one of his own.
Connecticut rallied in the second period, closing the gap to 6-5 in favor of the Vikings. A
Bence Kovacs-Siklosi goal would give the Vikings some cushion heading into halftime.
The third period saw the teams tie after the Camels came out on a 3-1 run. Rasic would put the Vikings back in front with a Brinkmeier assist. The Camels would finish the period on a 4-0 run, and the Vikings headed into the final frame down 9-12.

In the fourth period, Augustana regained control, scoring five unanswered goals. Bannister, Lomax, Addison, Landes, and Rasic were the scorers in the period. Bannister was credited with three assists on the five goals. The Vikings completed the comeback, winning 14-12.
The Vikings will be back in action tomorrow for Day Two, facing Washington & Jefferson at 8:30 a.m. and Johns Hopkins at 1 p.m., all times CST.
