Men's water polo defeats Austin

STANFORD, Calif. -- The Augustana Vikings men's water polo team defeated the Austin Kangroos by a score of 18-4 on Saturday in day two of the MPSF Championships.

Mark Addison kicked off the day with a successful shot off a steal by Oskar Bannister to take the early lead. Ian Palmroos followed with a goal with Rhys Lomax credited with the assist. The Vikings tallied two more from Addison and Lomax before Austin collected their first goal of the game at 4-1. Stevan Rasic nothced a goal of his own off a pass by Tyler Leslie but the Kangaroos closed the first with a goal to make a 5-2 score after eight minutes of play.

In the second, Austin put up three to get within one at 5-4, but Mason Landes found the back of the net off a pass by James Davis. Augie added two more to the scoresheet with both goals coming from Bannister to double the score at 8-4. The Kangaroos found two more, but Addison closed out the half with a successful shot from Cole Faux to move the game 9-6.

Returning to action, both teams remained scoreless until 1:25, when Rasic found the back of the net with Lomax getting the assist. In the fourth, the Vikings put up four in six minutes leaving Austin in a deadlock until 1:37 remaining in the period. The Kangaroos were successful, but Augustana maintained the lead to win by a score of 14-8.

Seven different Vikings scored in the win, with Bannister leading with three, while Lomax had three assists, and Bannister stole three possessions.

With the win, Augie moves to 16-8 on the season and will be back in action tomorrow to battle Johns Hopkins.
