DECORAH, Iowa -- The Augustana Vikings men's and women's wrestling teams finished the Luther Open on Saturday.
On the women's side,
Moni Griffin led the team with a championship run in the 131 weight class. Griffin opened with back-to-back falls - stopping Southeastern in 22 seconds and  Southeast in 50 seconds. In the quarterfinals, the junior won with another fall over Hawkeye and then secured a 10-0 technical fall over Wartburg. Griffin secured the title with a fall over Uppo Iowa in 36 seconds, capping an undefeated run.Â
Aine Moffit finished second in the 145 division after receiving an opening-round bye. The senior followed with a fall over Hawkeye and continued with a 6-0 decision against Wartburg. In the quarterfinals, the senior notched a 9-0 decision over Cornell and finished as runner-up in a fight for the championship. Also in the 145 division, freshman
Kelly Ladd secured three wins on the day, with a fall over Augsburg and Quincy. Ladd also added a 5-4 decision against Dubuque.
Maryam Ndiaye posted a fifth-place finish in the 160 category after a first-round bye and pinning her foe from Wartburg. The sophomore followed with a 10-0 technical fall against Loras and a 14-3 technical fall against Cornell. In the semifinals, Ndiaye lost, but bounced back with a fall over Dubquue to clinch fifth.
Mia Vazquez secured fifth in the 103 division with a bye in round one and followed with a pin against Dubuque and Quincy. Vazquez finished the day with an 8-2 decision over Southeast to claim fifth.
Lanie Cecala tallied two technical falls over UW-Stevens Point and Hawkeye, along with a pin.Â
Gia Ritter secured two wins after a pin against Buena Vista and a 12-2 technical fall over UW-Stevens Point.Â
Other Vikings who earned victories were
Jo Orozco (110),
Bri Bynum (138), and
Jaiden Moody (160).Â
For the men,
Jack Miller opened the day with an 11-6 decision over Coe at 174.
Tyson Bruce picked up a 17-2 technical fall in the consolation quarterfinals over Hakweye in the 133 Silver bracket. In the Silver 141 category,
Matt Lucansky secured first place. 10-6 decision in the opening round against Rochester and followed with an 11-0 major decision against Joliet in the consolation bracket.Â
The Vikings will return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 18, for a dual meet against Elmhurst.
