DECATUR, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings women's volleyball team will take on the Millikin Big Blue on Tuesday, Nov. 11, in the first round of the CCIW Tournament.
Augustana clinched the No. 6 seed in the postseason following a 3-5 record in CCIW action this season. The Vikings finished 14-14 overall and are coming off two 3-1 victories over Loras and Grinnell on Saturday to wrap up the regular season. In the Vikings' most recent matchup against Grinnell, Augie quickly set the momentum, taking the first set 25-17 to take a 1-0 lead in the match. Augustana kept the energy high after a 25-19 set two win before a neck-and-neck battle to the end of the third with a 25-23 loss to force extra sets. The Vikings closed out the match with a strong 25-16 victory to seal the 3-1 battle to finish the regular season.Â
Lanah Queckboener led the team with 14 kills, while
Leah Rizzo notched 24 assists and both had 16 digs apiece. Queckboener also had four service aces, while
Carmela Carbone and
Alita Folkening blocked three attempts apiece.Â
Millikin earned the No. 3 seed in the tournament following a 5-3 mark in league play. The Big Blue closed the regular season after splitting matchups against DePauw and No. 14 WashU this past Saturday. In the game against WashU, Millikin put up a five-set battle, stunning them after a first-set victory, before their opponents tied the match 1-1 overall. The Big Blue bounced back to take the third set, and WashU forced extra sets. Millikin came out firing in the fifth, but the Bears took control at the end to seal the 3-2 win. In the match, Elle Richards and Gabriella Ricci each tallied 10 kills, while Samantha Breckenridge notched 21 assists and Kylie Ramirez had 21 digs.Â
Millikin holds a 56-18 all-time series record over the Vikings, with the Big Blue securing a 3-2 victory over Augie on Oct. 15. In the first set, both teams fought to a 31-29 final score with Millikin taking the early 2-0 lead overall. Augustana followed with a big 25-19 win in the third set to force extras and took the neck-and-neck victory in set four with a score of 27-25. Both teams went back-and-forth in the final set until a five-point run put the Big Blue ahead to take the 3-2 win.Â
Mallory Coley led the team with 12 kills, while
Alexis Richards and
Elle Jones followed with 11, respectively, andÂ
Abby Kirchner posted a season-high of 26 assists. Rizzo notched three service aces, while Carbone blocked four attack attempts and Richards had 17 digs.Â
