MONMOUTH, Ill. — The Augustana Vikings men's and women's swimming and diving teams earned a dominant sweep over Monmouth College on Friday, Oct. 24. The men claimed a 149–28 victory, while the women captured a 134–50 win, with numerous first-place finishes and strong relay performances leading the way.
The Vikings women opened with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay, as
Natalie Salazar,
Livy Sholl,
Charlotte Vogen, and
Sophia Warren clocked a winning time of 1:55.96. Augustana's B-relay of
Sammie Knox,
Petra Evans,
Savannah Shapley, and
Lexie Seten captured two points with a time of 2:02.69.
Caitlin Stoddard,
Mya Pheneger, and
Kendle Mihm swept the top three spots in the 200-yard freestyle, posting times of 2:03.01, 2:03.27, and 2:03.34, respectively.
Ava Kauffeld (2:11.84) and
Makenzie Rusco (2:15.13) rounded out the event in fifth and sixth. In the 50-yard freestyle, Warren (26.05) and Vogen (26.09) led another 1–2 finish, while
Kylee Blaha (26.90) placed fifth, followed by
Victoria Krol (27.07), Seten (27.22), Salazar (27.35),
Delaney Hummel (29.21), and
Grace King (30.08).
Giselle Koonce secured a win in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:21.36, followed by Sholl (2:26.00), Evans (2:26.41), Knox (2:29.81), and
Avery Spacek (2:42.21).
In the 100-yard butterfly, Stoddard captured first in 1:02.70, with Krol (1:04.31) and Vogen (1:04.32) finishing close behind and capturing points for the Vikings. Shapley (1:05.97),
Macy Ahlgren (1:06.99), Kauffeld (1:07.10), and
Emma McVicker (1:15.48) rounded out the event. Pheneger continued her strong meet with a win in the 100-yard freestyle (56.13), while Salazar (59.83) and Rusco (1:02.29) added second and fourth-place finishes. Mihm (1:05.14), Blaha (1:05.16), and Warren (1:06.48) placed second through fourth in the 100-yard backstroke, with Knox (1:07.08), Spacek (1:07.72), Evans (1:08.44), and King (1:11.50) rounding out the event.
Koonce (5:33.05) and Shapley (5:34.16) led a 1–2 finish in the 500-yard freestyle, followed by Seten (6:02.44) and Hummel (6:05.62).
In the 100-yard breaststroke, Stoddard (1:11.65) and Sholl (1:12.91) finished second and third, while McVicker (1:20.03) and Ahlgren (1:25.22) added valuable depth points. The women capped the meet with a commanding relay sweep as Pheneger, Krol, Koonce, and Mihm won the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:44.53, and Blaha, Spacek, Kauffeld, and McVicker took second at 1:50.74. The C-relay of Rusco, Hummel, King, and Ahlgren placed fourth (1:57.40).
The Augustana men opened with a dominant showing in the 200-yard medley relay, as

Teddy McGuire took first in 1:38.70, followed by
Emanuel Anguelov,
Alejandro Jacob,
Elliot Martillo, and
Sam Kulisek in second (1:40.70). Luke Rettig headlined individual events with a victory in both the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.88) and 100-yard freestyle (48.49).
Ethan Herstedt (1:54.34) and
Carter Lavold (1:54.37) followed in second and third in the 200 free, with Josh Whalen,
Max Nord,
Matteo Graham, and
Christian Mammoser all adding times under 2:07.
In the 50-yard freestyle,
Bjorn Sievert (21.80) led a Viking sweep with Castillo (22.50) and McGuire (22.92) rounding out the top three. Kulisek (22.98),
William Quesnell (23.11), and
Matt Olaru (23.40) added depth. Anguelov captured first in the 200-yard individual medley (2:02.32), followed closely by Garland (2:02.97) and
Matthew Meyer (2:03.50). Martillo (2:11.32) and Jacob (2:11.39) also contributed solid efforts.
Castillo (54.71) and McCormack (54.81) finished second and third in the 100-yard butterfly, while Quesnell (58.99), Herstedt (1:01.68), and Mammoser (1:02.66) completed the sweep of top-five spots. Rettig (48.49), McGuire (49.18), and Sievert (49.51) again went 1–2–3 in the 100-yard freestyle, followed by Kulisek (49.96), Olaru (52.67), and Whalen (53.06).
Alex Xayachanla (58.03), Meyer (58.47), and McCormack (1:00.70) controlled the 100-yard backstroke, placing first through fourth overall.
Lavold won the 500-yard freestyle (5:01.84) with Anguelov (5:11.03) and Graham (5:18.41) rounding out the podium. Nord (5:18.94) and Martillo (5:32.24) added strong supporting finishes. Garland and Jacob swept the 100-yard breaststroke, clocking 59.81 and 1:00.34, respectively, while Xayachanla (1:05.83) placed third to complete the event sweep. In the final relay, Nord, Olaru, Lavold, and Xayachanla won the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:38.15), followed by Whalen, Herstedt, Mammoser, and Graham in second (1:41.53).
With the sweep, the Vikings men improve to 2–2, while the women move to 2–2 on the year. Augustana will return to the pool Saturday, Nov. 8
th versus St. Ambrose.
