Swimming & diving falls to Grinnell and Colorado College

GRINNELL, Iowa -- The Augustana Vikings men's and women's swimming and diving programs fall to the Grinnell Pioneers and Colorado College Tigers on Saturday. 

On the women's side, Kendle Mihm conquered the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.29.    Natalie Salazar finished the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:04.38 for fifth, and Savannah Shapley clocked a time of 5:03.62 in the 400-yard individual medley to place fifth. Charlotte Vogen finished fourth in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:02.76. Mya Pheneger, Giselle Koonce, Vogen, and Mihm claimed second in the 400-yard freestyle with a time of 3:45.82. 

On day two, Salazar, Livy Sholl, Vogen, and Mihm placed fourth in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:55.18. Shapley clocked in a time of 2:22.23 in the 200-yard butterfly, while Ava Kauffeld claimed fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:38.62. Pheneger finished the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:03.47 to place fourth. Salazar swam a time of 2:19.35 to finish fourth in the 200-yard backstroke. Mihm secured second place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.82. Kauffeld finished the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:24.34 to finish fifth. Mihm, Sophia Warren, Vogen, and Koonce finished the meet with a time of 1:41.88 in the 200-yard freestyle relay to place third.

For the men, Alejandro Jacob claimed the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:00.65. Cesar Castillo, Michael Garland, Luke Rettig, and Bjorn Sievert finished third in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:32.48. Elsewhere, Bjorn finished fourth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 48.56. Carter Lavold secured a time of 4:29.70 in the 400-yard individual medley to finish third. Jack McCormick clocked in a time of 54.04 in the 100-yard butterfly for fourth place. Rettig, Teddy McGuire, Emmanuel Anguelov, and Sievert finished second in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:14.14. 

On Saturday, Castillo, Garland, Rettig, and Sievert finished third in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:36.20. Lavold finished second in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:58.71, and Garland was victorious in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:12.85. Anguelov finished the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:48.56 to place third, while Castillo finished the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:03.17 to place fourth. Retting claimed second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.60. Garland claimed fourth with a time of 2:03.17 in the 200-yard individual medley. Rettig, McCormack, Anguelov, and Siervert closed out the meet with a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:26.54.

With the two losses, Augie moves to 1-2 on the season and will be back in action on Oct. 24 to battle Monmouth.
