ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings women's wrestling team picked up a 3-1 record on Saturday at the Fred Johnson Duals in the Tim Dodge Mezzanine. The team collected wins over the Cornell Rams, Eureka Red Devils, and Jamestown Jimmies before falling to the Division II Quincy Hawks.
In the 32-5 win against Cornell, the Rams collected the first weight class before Augie conquered the remaining eight. Liz Ramirez secured the 117 division with a 16-11 decision and Sandie Pfeil followed with a 10-0 major decision in the 124 weight class. Moni Griffin notched a forfeit in the 131 weight class before the Vikings secured three consecutive decisions from Bri Bynum, Aine Moffit, and Maryam Ndiaye. In the 180-weight division, Sawyer Graham defeated her opponent with a 10-0 major decision and Angie Guy closed the first round with a pin in the 207 class.
In the second round against Eureka, Augie secured a 24-18 victory. The Red Devils secured the first weight class before Augie followed by two forfeits in the 117 and 124 weight divisions. Eureka collected wins in the next three categories to take the 18-11 lead before Moffit inches within two after a pin in the 160-weight class. Graham allowed Augie to overcome the Red Devils after a 7-0 decision to make the score 19-18. Guy concluded the matchup with a forfeit to secure the 24-18 win in round two.
Augie conquered round three with a 32-11 win over Jamestown. The Vikings conquered the first five weight classes to create a 25-0 advantage, with pins by Marissa Anderson in 117 and Abigail Dennington in 131, while Pfeil, Jo Orozco, and Bynum notched forfeits. The Jimmies followed with three consecutive wins to make a 27-11 score. The third-round dual ended with a forfeit from Jamestown to conclude the score at 32-11.
The Vikings dropped their final dual meeting to Quincy by a score of 37-10. The Hawks secured the early advantage after wins in the first three weight categories before Pfeil got Augie on the board after a 10-0 technical fall in the 124 division. Quincy secured the next four matchups before Graham collected five more points for Augie after a 13-2 technical fall in the 180 class. The Hawks secured the final weight class to take the 37-10 victory.
With three wins and one loss, Augie moves to 4-3 on the season and will be back in action on January 18 for a non-conference dual matchup against No. 4 Grand Valley State in Iowa City.
