KENOSHA, Wis. -- The Augustana Vikings men's wrestling team finished the CCIW Duals with a 2-2 record on Saturday. The Vikings grabbed wins over the Carthage Firebirds and Concordia (Wis.) Falcons and fell to the Millikin Big Blue and Aurora Spartans.
In the first dual meet against Millikin, the Big Blue secured the first four weight classes before Michael Macias grabbed a 19-4 technical fall in the 157 division. The Big Blue grabbed the next three categories and Jacob Badger conquered the 197 matchup with an 11-2 major decision. Josh Woodrey closed the first dual with an 8-3 decision in the heavyweight category but Millikin clasped the 34-12 victory.
In match two, Carthage grabbed the first weight category before Samuel Deyro pinned his opponent in the 133 class. The Firebirds picked up the 141 division and Kameron Hanel followed with a 13-0 major decision in the 149 matchup. Macias followed with an 8-1 decision to move Augie's advantage to 9-8. Carthage snatched the 165 category and Jack Miller followed with three team points with a 10-6 decision to get the Vikings within one at a score of 13-12. The Firebirds stretched the gap to 16-12 after a win in 184, but Badger notched five team points after a 15-0 technical fall. Woodrey obtained a 4-1 decision to clinch the 24-16 victory.
The Vikings won all but two matches against Concordia, starting with a forfeit in the 125 class. The Falcons obtained the 133 division before Will Taylor and Mikey Rodriguez pinned their opponents in their respective weight classes to move Augie's lead to 18-4. Macias and Jack Patting won by forfeit in their categories before Miller and Nathan Petreikis pinned their opponents in the 174 and 184 weight divisions. Badger added five team points after a 19-4 technical fall and Concordia secured the final weight class, but the Vikings notched the 47-8 victory.
In the final contest against Aurora, the Spartans secured the first five weight classes to obtain the early lead. Patting conquered the 165 division with a pin against his opponent before Miller grabbed an 8-5 decision to make a 20-9 score. Aurora secured the 184 category and Badger followed with a forfeit to close the gap to 23-15. Woodrey rounded out the night with a 5-0 decision, but the Vikings fell to the Spartans by a score of 23-18.
With the 2-2 record, Augie moves to 10-4 on the season and 4-3 in conference action. The Vikings will be back in action on January 31 for the Pete Willson Invitational in Wheaton, Ill.
