IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The Augustana Vikings women's wrestling team will travel to the University of Iowa on Saturday, January 18 for a pair of matches against the No. 4 Grand Valley State Lakers and No. 1 Iowa Hawkeyes.
The Vikings sit at 4-3 on the season and return to action after hosting the Fred Johnson Duals on January 4. At the event, Augie collected a 3-1 record with wins against Cornell, Eureka, and Jamestown before falling to Division II Quincy.
Sandie Pfeil came out of the event undefeated in the 124 weight class with two 10-0 technical falls and two forfeits to earn CCIW women's wrestler of the week. Sawyer Graham and Angie Guy grabbed three wins in their respective weight categories. Graham picked up two 7-0 decisions and caught a 13-2 technical fall against Quincy in the 180 division. In the 208 weight class, Guy pinned her opponent from Cornell and notched two forfeits.
Grand Valley State enters the contest with a 1-1 overall record and returns to action after competing at the North Central Open on December 15. Four Lakers were in the top-five of the brackets including the consolation matches. Sabrina Nauss finished the event with a 5-1 record in the 180-weight class with two technical falls, two pins, and a decision.
Iowa is undefeated with a 13-0 record and enters the contest after a 28-13 victory over No. 2 North Central last Saturday. The Hawkeyes conquered eight of the 10 weight categories with six decisions, a technical fall, and a pin. Iowa holds a 2-0 home record with their last home matchup being the win against North Central.
The team will also have one wrestler at Cornell for the Cliff Keen-Mike Duroe Invitational in Mount Vernon, Iowa.
Saturday will be the first time Augie has met either team. The Vikings will be at the Cliff Keen-Mike Duroe Invitational at 9 a.m. before taking on No. 4 Grand Valley at 6 p.m. and No. 1 Iowa at 7 p.m.
