Box Score ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Five members of the Augustana Vikings men's tennis team competed in the ITA Regional Championships over the weekend.
On Friday, the Vikings saw a win in doubles action as
Gabriel Luna and
Nicolas Navarro earned an 8-1 decision over their opponent from Illinois Tech to advance to the next round. The two were eliminated from the tournament in the next round, losing a close battle to North Central by a score of 8-6. Elsewhere,
Arthur Hermange and
David Larraga dropped their opening round match and bowed out of the consolation bracket to end their stay.
In singles,
Nicolas Navarro was victorious in his first contest, winning by a score of 6-3, 6-4 over his counterpart from Millikin. Navarro then faced North Central's top singles player from a year ago and was defeated 6-4, 6-3 to end his run.
Hermange, Luna, and
Timothee Philip all fell in their first match in singles and found themselves in consolation play. Philip saw his stay come to an end Saturday morning in an 8-3 loss to Wabash. Hermange and Luna both picked up wins in their first contest in consolation action to advance to the round of 16 on Saturday. Luna won his second outing of the day by a score of 8-3, but fell in the quarterfinal round in a close 8-6 battle. Hermange was defeated in the round of 16 to eliminate him from contention.
Augustana will now break until the spring portion of its season.
