DECATUR, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings women's volleyball team will begin CCIW play on Wednesday, September 18 when they travel south to take on the No. 14 ranked Millikin Big Blue.
Augustana enters conference play with a 3-5 overall record, recently dropping two of three matches at the Viking Classic over the weekend. Augie began the weekend with a 3-1 victory over Greenville before dropping matches to Buena Vista in four and DePauw in five. In the win over Greenville,
Emily Schipper led the charge offensively with 16 kills, while
Carmela Carbone and
Mallory Coley combined for 11 blocks. Four Vikings had double-digit digs, with
Ashley Awbrey posting a team-high 18. Schipper was named to the Viking Classic All-Tournament Team after posting 15-plus kills in all three matches.
Millikin currently sits with an 8-2 overall record and is recently up to No. 14 in the latest AVCA Division III poll. The Big Blue recently won two of three contests at the UW-Whitewater Invite, defeating both Concordia (Wis.) and UW-Stout in straight sets. Millikin's lone loss over the weekend came against UW-Whitewater, snapping a five-match winning streak. Wednesday will serve as the Big Blue's first home match this season after playing seven of their 10 contests in a neutral-site setting. Millikin was 9-2 on its home court last season.
The Big Blue are 54-18 against the Vikings all-time and won last season's meeting in Rock Island by a score of 3-0. Augustana won the last encounter in Decatur two seasons ago, breaking a 16-match losing streak and earning the first win in the series since 2007.
