ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings women's tennis team will play host to the Elmhurst Bluejays on Tuesday, September 17 in a home conference showdown.
Augie currently sits at 2-1 on the season and is coming off a pair of back-to-back 7-0 victories on the road. On Friday, the Vikings blanked Illinois Wesleyan in Bloomington, winning two of three doubles matches and all six singles contests.
Maddy Harned made quick work of her opponent at No. 6 with a 6-0, 6-1 victory, while
Anna-Maria Huebel was close behind at No. 2 with a 6-1, 6-2 final score.
Natasha Gauerke earned a pair of 6-3 wins at No. 4 and
Maitreyi Shrikhande grabbed a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 5 to continue the success for Augie. At No. 3,
Colleen Larry won her first set 6-3 before hanging on with a 7-6 (7-5) tiebreaker to decide the second.
Hannah Colbert won the final match at No. 1, securing a 10-7 third-set tiebreaker.
On Saturday against Millikin, all three doubles matches were won by Augie. The tandem of Shrikhande and Gauerke won at No. 2 by a 6-0 score, while Colbert and Collleen Larry took down their opponent at the top spot by a final of 6-4. Augustana led 1-0 heading into singles.The Vikings were then victorious in all six singles matchups. Shrikhande continued her successful outing, earning another quick decision following a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 4. Huebel and Larry secured straight-set wins at the No. 2 and 3 positions, while Colbert grabbed her second three-set triumph in as many days to complete the perfect outing for the Vikings.
Elmhurst enters Tuesday's clash with an 0-4 overall record and 0-1 mark in conference. The Bluejays were recently defeated by Lake Forest last Wednesday by a score of 7-0. Elmhurst dropped its lone CCIW contest to Carthage back on September 4 by a score of 7-0. The Bluejays are 0-1 on the road this season, falling to Wisconsin Lutheran by a final of 5-2.
Augustana has never lost to Elmhurst, winning all 36 prior meetings. The Vikings were victorious last season on the road by a score of 6-0.
