Women take second, men third at Luther All-American Invitational

DECORAH, Iowa – The Vikings traveled to Decorah, Iowa for the Luther All-American Invitational on Saturday, September 14. 
 
On the women's side, fifth-year Emma Odle took the top spot for the Vikings, placing third overall with a time of 19:03.4 for 5k. She was the top collegiate finisher. Freshman Keira Nelson finished 13th in 20:22.0. Also inside the top 20 were Marie Weber and Ellie DeFarno, who placed 18th and 19th, respectively, with times of 20:47.8 and 21:04.8. Sammy Lehr rounded out the Vikings' top five with a time of 21:07.6.
 
The Viking women concluded the meet with 64 points, good for second place, only one point behind meet champion Macalester who earned 63 points.
 
Senior Grant Ackard led the charge on the men's side over the four-mile race, placing second with a time of 20:23.1. Closely behind, senior Finbar Martin placed third with a time of 20:36.5. Martin's time was a personal best, nearly a minute faster than his previous best. Senior Alex Gazarek also placed in the top 10 with a time of 21:09.8, good for eighth place. Emiliano Almendariz and Joe Gibbons were the Vikings' fourth and fifth runners, with their respective times of 22:13.5 and 22:28.4. Gibbons' time was also a personal best.
 
The Viking men finished third overall with 72 points.
 
Next up, Augustana will compete at home, racing the 42nd annual Brissman-Lundeen Invitational on Saturday, September 28.
