Five Vikings on women’s track & field team earn CSC All-District honors

GREENWOOD, Ind. -- Five Vikings on the Augustana Vikings women's track and field team have been named to the College Sports Communicators track & field/cross country Academic All-District teams, the organization announced Tuesday. Hannah Johnson, Charlotte Frere, Heather Michalski, Bridget Wunderlich, and McKenzie Reser were the five women honored.

Johnson, a senior jumper from Elmhurst Ill., studied Psychology and Art at Augustana and is a first-time recipient of the All-District honor. This season, the senior grabbed a personal record of 10.51 meters and notched All-Conference in the triple jump at the CCIW Championships.

Frere, a sophomore thrower from Preemption, Ill., was the national title winner in the discus throw at the Outdoor National Championships. The All-American and All-Conference honoree crushed the discus record by over five meters with a distance of 50.27 meters (164-11) and also secured seventh at Augie in the hammer throw with a distance of 44.24 meters (145-1.75). The sophomore is a Biology and Kinesiology major at Augustana.

Michalski, a junior from Batavia, Ill., who studies Biology - Pre Veterinary and Studio Art at Augie, is a two-time award recipient after obtaining this award last season. During the indoor season, Michalski secured third place in the CCIW Championships to notch a top 15 placement in the nation and qualified for the national championship with an All-Region nod. At the CCIW Outdoor Championships, Michalski finished third in the javelin throw to collect All-Conference. 

Wunderlich, a junior for Mundelein, Ill. is a four-time Dean's list and a double major in Secondary History Education and Psychology. The thrower threw 12.16 meters at the Rittgers Invitational in April in the shot put event for a second-place finish and 41.13 meters at the Augustana Midwest Twilight Qualifier. 

Reser, a junior from Sycamore, Ill., is a two-time All-District honoree and is a Political Science and Psychology major. The junior earned All-Conference this season at the Indoor CCIW Championships in the 60-meter and at the Outdoor CCIW Championships in the 100-meter and 200-meter. Reser also received All-Region honors and finished in the top 20 in both the 100-meter and 200-meter at the NCAA Division III National Championships. 

Frere and Reser are now eligible for CSC Academic All-American and will advance to the national ballot. The voting period will begin this week.
