Five Vikings recognized on CSC Men's Track & Field/Cross Country Academic All-District team

GREENWOOD, Ind. -- A total of five Augustana student-athletes have been named to the College Sports Communicators men's track & field/cross country Academic All-District teams, the organization announced Tuesday. Aykeem Spivey, Joe Langridge, Magnus Wells, Derek Butts, and Connor McBride earned the accolade on the men's side.

Spivey, a thrower, studied Art and Psychology at Augie and also received All-Conference, All-Region, and First Team All-American honors this season. In the hammer throw event, Spivey secured a personal best at the Division III Outdoor National Championships with a distance of 60.84 meters to finish sixth. During the indoor CCIW Championships, the senior secured third place in the shot put event. 

Langridge, a junior for Des Plaines, Ill., earned this award for the second time after notching All-Conference honors during the indoor and outdoor seasons. During the indoor season, Langridge placed first in the 3000-meter before finishing second at the outdoor championships to give him the No. 21 time in Division III. He also obtained third in the 5000-meter. The junior is a double major in Economics and Geography at Augustana. 

Wells, a sophomore thrower from Hillsboro, Ill. also earned All-Conference this season in the shot put and javelin throw. At the Outdoor CCIW Championships, Wells conquered the javelin throw with a personal record of 53.90 meters and secured eighth in the shot put event with a season record of 13.85 meters. At the Indoor CCIW Championships, the sophomore grabbed second place in the shot put event. 

Butts, a senior pole vaulter from Yorkville, Ill., is a multi-time All-Conference and Dean's list honoree. This season, the senior earned All-Conference in the pole vault with a third-place finish at the Outdoor CCIW Championships with a height of 4.68 meters. In February, at the Indoor CCIW Championships, Butts finished third with a personal record of 4.65 meters. The senior studied Middle/High School Science Education at Augustana. 

McBride, a senior from Dixon, Ill., is a Kinesiology and Biology major at Augustana. This season, he earned All-Conference in the 200-meter and 400-meter during the outdoor season and in February finished fifth in the 400-meter at the CCIW Indoor Championships. 

Langridge and Spivey will advance to the national voting ballot for Academic-All American. The Voting period will begin this week.
