MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- Charlotte Frere of the Augustana Vikings women's track and field team conquered the discus throw event on the first day of the national championships on Thursday. The sophomore is the first women's track and field outdoor national champion since Meghan Voiland in the pole vault event in 2007, and just the fourth ever in program history and third outdoor champion.
Frere posted 50.27 meters in her second attempt, which was only one centimeter further from the individual in second place. This distance secured a new personal best by .25 meters.
This season marks the third straight that the women have boasted an All-American at the DIII Outdoor Championships.
