ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings men's and women's track & field teams won a combined 12 event titles on Saturday to win the 79th Viking Olympics. The women took first place with 256 points, while the men collected 215.50 points to grab first.
For the women, the Vikings had three of the top five finishers in the 100-meter dash, led by McKenzie Reser's first-place and personal-best time of 12.22. Her time now ranks No. 14 in all of Division III this season. Cora Deemer and Jade Johnson also earned top-five finishes in the event. Elsewhere, Lina Maatouk conquered the 1500-meter run, crossing the finish line at 4:55.48. Kenzie Meirhaeghe took the 3000 steeplechase with a time of 12:16.07, with Ellie DeFarno and Portia Carrera right behind in second and third. In the 4x100 relay, Nabila Saam, Reser, Deemer, and Shakira Wade clocked in at 49.51 to place first, which notched the No. 10 spot in the record book all-time at Augie.
In field events, Charlotte Frere threw 50.02 meters to take first and set a new CCIW all-time record and No. 20 standing all-time in DIII. The toss also breaks her own school record she set last weekend and remains No. 1 in Division III this season. Elizabeth Hayes jumped 10.46 meters in the triple jump to take the win, with Hannah Johnson getting second. Heather Michalski found victory in the javelin throw with 38.58 meters, while other top finishers were Amelia Miller in second, Laina Nelson in third, and Frere in fifth.
On the men's side, Finbar Martin secured the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:00.02, with Donovan Garro and Peyton Sand also finishing in the top five. Sean Abracia-Wendel, Connor McBride, Braeden Clements, and Sylvester Brady secured the 4x100 relay after clocking in a time of 42.96, with the 'B' relay right behind.
In field events, Caden Eller took first in the high jump event with a distance of 1.87 meters as well as the long jump event with a mark of 6.57 meters. Mike Hudson threw 48.54 meters to secure the javelin throw, while Dylan Russell and Reid McNeill also finished in the top five for Augie.
The Vikings will be back in action Friday, April 12 at the UW-Platteville Invitational.
