ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings women's tennis team will be back at home on Saturday, April 6 when they welcome in the Loras Duhawks to Lincoln Park.
Augie currently sits at 7-11 on the year after a 1-3 trip to Florida over Spring Break. Two of the team's three defeats came by just a single point, with their victory coming on March 26 in a 5-4 win over SUNY New Paltz. In the win, Augustana faced an early deficit after New Paltz grabbed wins in two of three doubles matches.
Hattie Timerman and
Mikayla Kelly earned a point for the Vikings following an 8-6 victory at the No. 3 slot.
All six singles matches resulted in a tiebreaker of some sort, with only the No. 1 and No. 6 spots being decided in consecutive sets.
Caitlyn Hanulikova won a first-set tiebreaker before taking the second set 6-0 to complete a win at No. 1, while New Paltz claimed the other straight-set victory at No. 6 to go with a win at No. 5. All three matches at No. 2, 3, and 4 went in favor of Augie.
Anna-Maria Huebel bounced back from an opening-set loss to win by a final score of 5-7, 6-1, 10-8 at No. 2.
Maitreyi Shrikhande won her contest at No. 4 by a final of 6-4, 1-6, 10-7. With the match tied 4-4,
Hannah Colbert earned the match-sealing win at No. 3, bouncing back from a 7-5 first-set defeat with a 6-2 win in the second before notching the tiebreaker 10-3. Augie's four wins in singles sealed the 5-4 team victory.
Loras enters Saturday with an 11-6 overall record, recently returning from competition at the same venue as Augustana in Florida. The Duhawks went 2-3 during their stay, most recently falling by a score of 9-0 to Piedmont. Loras is 4-2 on the road this season and will play in its first true road contest of the spring schedule.
Augustana is 17-4 all-time against Loras and has won five in arow in the series dating back to 2013. The last meeting between the two came back in 2015, resulting in a 9-0 win for the Vikings.
