DES MOINES, Iowa -- Members of the Augustana Vikings men's and women's track & field teams completed their second day of the competitive Drake Relays on Saturday.
On day one, Charlotte Frere secured seventh place in the discus throw after throwing 46.65 meters in her fifth attempt. In the 4x200-relay, Cora Deemer, McKenzie Reser, Jordyn Van Santen, and Nabila Saam finished in the top 20 with a time of 1:43.80. The time was good for second fastest in program history, just .01 off the top mark.
On Saturday, Lina Maatouk, Reser, Portia Carrera, and Emma Odle finished in eighth place with a time of 12:32.89 in the distance medley relay. In the javelin throw, Heather Michalski threw 38.82 on her third attempt to obtain sixth place and a new season record.Â
For the men, Emiliano Almendariz, Connor McBride, Joe Gibbons, and Joe Langridge ran a time of 10:36.05 to finish in the top 20 in the distance relay. In the 4x200 relay, Sylvester Brady, Jimmy Vercoe, Jason Smith, and Cameron Tomko crossed the finish line at 1:30.32 to place in the top 20. Akyeem Spivey threw 52.24 meters in his third attempt at the hammer throw to place 23rd.
The Vikings will be back to action on May 3-4 to host the CCIW Outdoor Championships.Â
