BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings women's tennis team will take on the Carthage Firebirds on Thursday, April 25 in the opening round of the CCIW Tournament at Evergreen Racquet Club.
Augustana earned the No. 5 seed in the upcoming tournament after a 4-4 showing in conference play in the fall. The team finished in a three-way tie for fourth place with Carthage and Carroll. Augie wrapped up its regular season with a 9-12 overall record and boasted a 5-2 mark at home. In their most recent outing, the Vikings lost a close battle on the road to Luther by a score of 6-3. Augie grabbed two of three doubles matches, but the Norse prevailed in five of six singles contests to earn the victory.

Caitlyn Hanulikova before notching a straight-set triumph at No. 3 singles. On Tuesday, she was named the CCIW Student-Athlete of the Week.
Carthage enters the tournament with a 12-7 overall record and finished 4-4 in the CCIW as well during the fall. During their last match, the Firebirds fell at home on Senior Day by a score of 5-4 to UW-Eau Claire to snap their four-match winning streak. Carthage is 3-2 in neutral-site competitions this year, but has won three in a row following a 3-0 stay in Florida over its spring break.
Augustana is 27-18 all-time against Carthage, but the Firebirds took the earlier-season battle in Kenosha by a score of 6-3. The Vikings and Firebirds also met last season in the CCIW quarterfinals, resulting in a 5-1 victory for Augie. The two teams have split their last six meetings with three wins apiece.
