ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings men's and women's track & field teams concluded the Augustana Meet of Champions on Saturday, with the women finishing in fifth and the men in 11th, both out of 24 teams.
On Friday, Allison Hunt finished fourth in the high jump section of the heptathlon with a height of 1.53 meters. In field events, Charlotte Frere found victory in the discus event with a distance of 47.35 meters. Heather Michalski conquered the javelin throw with a distance of 38.00 meters. For the men, Mike Hudson threw 11.46 meters in the shot put section of the decathlon to place third.
On Saturday, McKenzie Reser finished fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.13. In the 100-meter hurdles, Madison Morrow crossed the finish line at 15.51 to place third, while Ellie DeFarno finished fourth in the 5000-meter with a time of 19:18.21. Emma Gocken also earned a personal-best time in the 5000 at 22:23.53. In the 4x400, Reser, Lina Maatouk, Jordyn Van Santen, and Kira Nelson clocked in with a time of 4:06.57 to place fifth. Anna Boardman notched a personal best in the 1500m race, clocking in at 4:54.24.
For the men, AJ Banks finished fourth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.15 and Hudson conquered the 1500-meter section of the decathlon with a time of 4:42.19. In the 4x100 meter relay, Sylvester Brady, Connor McBride, Jason Smith, and Sean Abracia-Wendel crossed the finish line fifth with a time of 43.25. In the 4x400 relay, McBride, Smith, Brady, and Dean Check clocked in a time of 3:29.42 to finish fourth.
As a group, the men boasted a total of 16 personal records, 13 coming on the track.
In field events, Luke Cowan threw 13.97 meters in the shot put event to obtain a new season best and fourth place. Hudson finished second in the javelin section of the decathlon with a distance of 48.03 meters, while Dylan Russell threw 43.75 meters to place fifth. In the hammer throw event, Aykeem Spivey threw 54.68 meters to finish fourth. Between the men and women, the Vikings saw 11 personal records in throws on Friday.
The Vikings will be back in action on Wednesday, April 24 for the Coe Mid-Week Open.
