HANOVER PARK, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings men's tennis team picked up a conference road victory over the Wheaton Thunder on Tuesday, winning by a score of 7-2.
Augustana owned a slight advantage following doubles play with wins in two of the three matches.
Arthur Hermange and
David Larraga were the first to finish at the No. 1 spot, defeating their opponent by a score of 8-2. Wheaton evened the score after taking the No. 2 match, but the Vikings claimed No. 3 following an 8-5 victory from
Nicolas Navarro and
Saman Rezaeyan. Augie led 2-1 heading into singles.
Timothee Philip moved the Vikings' advantage out to 3-1 with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5 to kick off singles play, followed by Navarro's 6-0, 6-2 triumph at No. 6. Rezaeyan was the match-clincher for Augie with a 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 4. Hermange won in straight sets at No. 1, while Larraga took down his counterpart at No. 2 in three sets to complete the day for the Vikings.
With the win, Augustana improves to 16-7 overall and 4-3 in the CCIW. The team will be back in action Thursday for an exhibition contest vs. St. Ambrose.
