HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Augustana Vikings men's and women's track and field teams competed on day two of the Southern Miss Invitational and WashU Invite on Saturday.
In field events on the women's side, Charlotte Frere set a new school record in discus after throwing 49.09 meters to take first place. The mark breaks a 16-year record of 48.7 set by Marissa Banks back in 2008. The distance also serves as No. 1 in Division III so far this season. In the high jump event, Rhiannon Marshall placed third with a height of 1.50 meters and Allison Hunt secured fifth. Heather Michalski finished second in the javelin with a distance of 38.13 meters, while Frere threw 33.56 meters to place fifth. Michalski also placed third in the shot put with a distance of 12.06 meters.
On the track, Nabila Saam, McKenzie Reser, Cora Deemer, and Shakira Wade finished fourth in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 47.61.
Other personal bests for the women include Madison Morrow in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.81, Lauren Oelke in the 400-meter hurdles at 1:10.60, and Skyler Barber in the shot put with 11.36 meters.
In men's field events, Aykeem Spivey placed second in the hammer throw after tossing 59.81 meters to secure No. 3 all-time in the Augie record book. Michael Hudson took fifth in the high jump with a height of 1.50 meters and fourth in the javelin throw with a distance of 51.64 meters, while Magnus Wells threw 51.49 meters to take fifth in the javelin as well. In pole vault, Derek Butts placed second with a height of 4.67 meters, with Reid McNeill behind in third at 4.37 meters and Dakota Straight notching 4.07 meters to secure fifth place.
Other personal bests include Braeden Clements in the long jump with a distance of 6.28 meters, Aiden Bowser in the 1500-meter with a time of 4:21.85, Reid McNeill in javelin at 46.19 meters, Devin Gephart in javelin with 42.08 meters, and Wells with his 51.49 heave in javelin.
At the WashU Invite in St. Louis, Mo., Emma Odle ran a time of 4:46.18 in the 1500-meter run to place fifth. Kenzie Meirhaeghe crossed the finish line third in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 12:29.16.
The Vikings will be back in action on Saturday, April 6 to host the Viking Olympics.
