Men’s wrestling wraps up Lower Midwest Regional

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- The Augustana Vikings men's wrestling team finished the Lower Midwest Regional on Friday, placing 10th out of 20 teams. Trevor Boryla and Josh Woodrey placed fourth in their respective weight classes after posting undefeated records on Thursday, but fell short on Friday. 

Boryla secured a 19-3 technical fall against Luther and a 18-3 technical fall against Buena Vista in his first two attempts in the 133 weight division and moved to the semifinal round after a 14-9 decision against Coe. Boryla moved to the consolation bracket after losing to Wartburg, where he secured a 5-1 decision against Loras. In the third-place match, Boryla fell to his opponent from Coe to finish fourth. 

Woodrey received a bye in the first round of the 285 division before converting a fall over his opponent from Illinois Wesleyan. In the quarterfinals, Woodrey grabbed a 12-4 major decision against Coe before falling to his opponent from North Central. In the consolation rounds, Woodrey grabbed a 4-2 decision against Cornell, but placed fourth after losing to Luther.

Michael Macias and Jacob Badger also entered Friday still in contention, but fell in their first contest of the day to bow out of the tournament. Badger finished seventh overall, while Macias earned eighth.

As a team, the Vikings scored 57 points to finish in 10th. Augie ends its season with a 14-6 overall record.
