STERLING, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings men's and women's tennis teams will host the UW-Stevens Point Pointers on Saturday, February 10 at Westwood Fitness & Sports Center in Sterling.
The Augie men currently sit at 3-2 on the season, splitting four matches last Saturday as the team broke into two different groups to compete at two different locations. The Vikings picked up two wins in Sterling, first defeating the Wabash Little Giants by a score of 6-3 before taking down Illinois Tech 5-4. In both wins, the Vikings began the match with victories in two of three doubles contests.
Arthur Hermange and
David Larraga were 2-0 on the day at No. 1 and 2 singles, with
Nicolas Navarro also completing a 2-0 afternoon at No. 4.
The UW-Stevens Point men enter Saturday with a 2-6 overall record, recently dropping their sixth straight contest in a 5-4 loss to Hamline. The Pointers are 0-3 in true road matches this season and 0-5 away from home. Saturday will serve as just the second all-time meeting between Augustana and Stevens Point.
Start time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
The Augustana women will also be in action, making their return to the court after a 4-4 fall slate. Saturday will not only be the team's first match of the 2024 calendar year, but their first non-conference contest of the season. The Vikings split their final four contests in the fall, picking up wins over Elmhurst and Carroll on the road.
The UW-Stevens Point women sit at 5-5 on the year and recently dropped their first match of the spring season last Sunday, falling to Winona State by a score of 9-0. The Pointers began the season with a perfect 4-0 record, but have since lost five of six, with their one win being a 9-0 victory at UW-River Falls. Stevens Point holds a 3-2 record in away contests this season. Saturday will be just the second meeting ever between the Vikings and Pointes, with Augie winning their only battle back in 2014 by a score of 8-1.
