Swimming & diving concludes final meet before conference

ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings men's and women's swimming & diving teams concluded their final meet of the regular season on Friday, with the women defeating the Wheaton Thunder by a score of 156-73, while the men fell by a final of 144.5-89.5.

"I am extremely proud of the way our team came back on races today and fought to the finish," said head coach Dan Lloyd. "It really made the difference. It was a great day to honor our seniors and I am extremely grateful for their dedication to our program over the last four years. It has been a true honor to coach them and I know today was a special moment for each of them as they were able to be honored by our fans and their teammates."

In the women's 200 medley relay, Augustana took two of the top three spots, led by the group of Hailey Glasnovich, Logan Alsop, Zoe Heiar, and Isabelle Sansom in first with a time of 1:53.89. In the 200-yard freestyle, the Vikings also claimed first as Mara Walker, Caitlin Stoddard, Olivia White, and Kendle Mihm clocked a time of 1:41.76.

M. Walker was the winner in the 1650 freestyle, claiming first by well over a minute at 18:38.64. Teammate Addison Larson came in second in the same event. In the 50 freestyle, the Vikings snagged four of the top five spots in the event, with Mihm clocking an event-winning time of 25.07. Augie also saw major success in the 200-yard IM, led by M. Walker in first with a mark of 2:15.92. Annabella Valenti followed in second at 2:20.57. Walker also capped off her successful day with a win in the 100-yard back. Augustana also secured three of the top five in the 100 fly, with Heiar earning first with a time of 1:01.42. In the 500 free, White earned a win on Senior Day with a time of 5:18.30, while Bella Casanovas grabbed second right behind. All five spots in the 100-yard breaststroke went in favor of Augustana, led by Brooke Walker's time of 1:13.22. Alsop and Heiar followed in second and third. B. Walker also put up a time of 11:16.49 in the mile race, good for over 13 seconds faster than second place.

Kaite Zaborenko won the 1-meter diving event with a score of 168.30. Anna Sanjose claimed second. Zaborenko was also the top score in the 3-meter.
 
In the men's 50-yard freestyle, Jack Brandt was the winner with a time of 21.64, while Lucas Rettig took second at 21.92. Rettig also notched first in the 100-yard backstroke with a final mark of 53.87.

In relays, the 200-yard freestyle team of Brandt, Oskar Bannister, Tyler Leslie, and Rettig secured first place with a final mark of 1:26.56.

With the results, the Augie women improve to 4-2 on the season, while the men sit at 3-3 in dual meets. The teams will be back in action beginning Wednesday, February 21 for the CCIW Championships.
