KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Augustana Vikings men's tennis team won its fourth straight contest on Sunday, defeating the Kalamazoo Hornets by a score of 8-1. It is the first-ever victory for Augustana over Kalamazoo.
Augie went a perfect 3-0 in doubles play to begin the match to bring a big lead into singles.
Arthur Hermange and
David Larraga were victorious at No. 1, winning by a score of 8-4, while a pair of 8-5 wins at No. 2 and 3 also went in favor of the Vikings.
Gabriel Luna and
Timothee Philip grabbed the win at No. 2 and
Saman Rezaeyan and
Nicolas Navarro came out on top at the third slot.
In singles, five of the six matches were won by Augie, highlighted by quick wins at No. 4 through 6. Rezaeyan made quick work of his opponent at the fourth position, nearly going without dropping a game in a 6-1, 6-0 victory. Philip and Navarro posted similar scores at the No. 5 and 6 slots, each dropping just three games through the two sets. Hermange and Luna and No. 1 and 3 each faced the same route on the way to their win, winning the first before dropping the second. Both earned wins in the third to help complete the road win for the Vikings.
With the result, Augustana improves to 6-2 on the season. The team will be back in action on March 2 against Coe and Cornell.
