Emma Odle sets new 3000-meter indoor record at Solomon Butler Classic

DUBUQUE, Iowa -- The Augustana Vikings men's and women's track and field teams completed the Solomon Butler Classic on Friday, with the women finishing second and the men earning third place. 

The day was highlighted by Emma Odle, who set a new indoor record in the 3000-meter run with a time of 10:05.37 to place second overall. The time breaks the previous mark of 10:14.66 set by Sarahbeth Jones in 2013.

Elsewhere for the women, Madison Morrow finished second in the 60-meter hurdle event with a time of 9.65, while McKenzie Reser secured first in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.90. Reser also found victory in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.94, followed by Cora Deemer in third with a time of 26.92 and Shakira Wade in fourth at 27.26. Two Vikings grabbed top-five spots in the 400-meter, with Deemer in fourth with a time of 8.16 and Jordyn Van Santen finishing in fifth with a time of 1:00.98. Anna Boardman earned a sixth-place overall standing in the 1-mile race and was the top Division III runner to cross the finish line with a mark of 5:13.17. The time is good for eighth all-time in the Augie record books. 

In the 4x400 relay, Van Santen, Deemer, Reser, and Wade crossed the finish line first with a time of 4:07.8, while Nabila Saam, Kira Nelson, Elizabeth Hayes, and Morrow secured third with a time of 4:21.07.

In field events, Heather Michalski secured a third-place finish in the weight throw with a distance of 14.46 meters, while Wade placed third in the long jump event at 5.01 meters. In the triple jump, Hayes found victory by jumping 10.16 meters, with Hannah Johnson following in second with a distance of 10.08 meters to go along with Portia Carrera in fourth with a distance of 9.86 meters. Rhiannon Marshall jumped 1.61 meters in the high jump to secure second, followed by Allison Hunt in fourth place with a distance of 1.56 meters. Amiyah Woods closed out the women's events with a third-place finish in the pole vault with a 2.80-meter mark.

As a team, the women placed second with 144.50 points, 48.5 ahead of third-place UW-Platteville.

On the men's side, AJ Banks ran a time of 8.63 in the 60-meter hurdles to secure second place. In the mile, Alex Gazarek finished fifth with a time of 4:27.03, while Connor McBride crossed the finish line third in the 400-meter dash at 51.13. Additionally, Joe Langridge placed second in the 800-meter with a time of 1:56.98.

In relays, McBride, Jimmy Vercoe, Sylvester Brady, and Cameron Tomko notched first in the 4x400 meter with a time of 3:28.31, while Banks, Dylan Russell, Langridge, and Colin Stapleton grabbed fourth with a time of 3:35.39.

In field events, the Vikings had three top-five finishes in the pole vault event, with Dakota Straight tallying 4.35 meters for second place. Reid McNeill and Derek Butts both followed with a height of 4.20 meters. Tomko closed out the night with a fifth-place finish in the high jump with a height of 1.89 meters. 

As a team, the men garnered 76 total points, 29 ahead of fourth-place Wisconsin. 

The Vikings will be back in action on Friday, February 23 for the two-day CCIW Indoor Championships in Naperville, Ill.
