INDIANOLA, Iowa -- The Augustana Vikings women's wrestling team hit the road for their first away dual meet of the season against the No. 22 Simpson Storm on Thursday, December 5.
The Vikings sit at 1-1 on the season and return from the UWEC 8-Women Battles on November 23, where the team picked up seven top-five placements, with Moni Griffin and Aine Moffit each winning their respective weight classes.
Griffin placed first in the 131 weight division after a 10-0 technical fall and back-to-back pins to take first place. In the 145 weight category, Moffit grabbed a 12-2 technical fall versus Simpson before a pin and a 5-3 decision against teammate Maryam Ndiaye. Ndiaye got to the title match after picking up two wins by pin. Sandi Pfeil finished second in the 124 weight class after a pin before a 7-5 decision. In the 160-weight class, Sawyer Graham finished third after two 10-0 technical falls. Abigail Dennington secured the top five with a forfeit in the 131 category, while Liz Ramirez collected fifth in 117 with three 10-0 technical falls.
Simpson enters the contest with a 3-2 record and returns to action after the UWEC 8-Women Battles on November 23. The Storm finished the event with 18 top-five finishes with six of those athletes finding victory in their respective weight classes. Thursday will be Simpson's first home matchup of the season after winning their lone home dual meet during the 2023-24 season. The Storm holds a 1-0 all-time record over Augie with their last matchup resulting in a 34-16 loss for the Vikings last season at the Kalahari Duals on December 16.
