Men's water polo begins weekend in Texas with two wins

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SHERMAN, Texas -- The Augustana Vikings men's water polo team collected a pair of wins to begin its stay in Texas on Saturday, defeating the Washington & Jefferson Presidents by a score of 19-10 before beating the Wheaton Lyons by a final of 32-4.

Against the Presidents, the two teams played to a high-scoring opening quarter, with the Vikings leading 5-4 after eight minutes of action. Augie created separation in the second, out-scoring W&J 4-1 to take a 9-5 lead into the halftime break. Stevan Rasic and Rhys Lomax each notched multiple goals in the first half.

Another high-scoring quarter ensued to begin the second half, with the two teams combining for eight goals in the third. Augustana stretched its margin out to six following a 5-3 frame before posting its third five-goal period of the game in the fourth to pull away for good. Six different players earned a score in the second half for the Vikings.

Lomax was the top scorer for the team with five goals, followed by four from Rasic. Oskar Bannister added four assists, while Henry Sothern grabbed the win in net after stopping seven shots.

In game two against Wheaton, Augustana enjoyed its best offensive showing of the season with 32 goals. The team led 8-0 after the first quarter prior to putting up 12 goals in the second for a 20-2 halftime advantage. The Vikings out-scored the Lyons 8-2 to in the third before winning the final period with a differential of 4-0. The 28-point margin of victory is the largest of the season.

A total of 12 different Vikings scored a goal in the win, with Colin McDowell setting a new single-game record with 10. Eight others had multiple tallies, including Ian Palmroos, Tyler Leslie, and Mark Addison each with three. Lomax and Cole Faux had four steals apiece, while Sothern earned his second win of the day in net.

With the victories, Augustana improves to 11-5 overall and 6-0 in the MPSF. The team will wrap up the regular season tomorrow vs. Penn State Behrend and Austin.
