Women’s basketball ready to host Monmouth

ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings women's basketball team is set to host the Monmouth Fighting Scots on Tuesday, November 26 for their fourth straight home game.

The Vikings sit at 1-3 on the season and return to action after hosting the Coe Kohawks on Saturday, which resulted in a 68-56 loss for Augie. Both teams were going back and forth with two ties in the first quarter but Coe snatched a 15-14 lead after 10 minutes of play. The visitors expanded the difference in the second quarter before Tia Lewis grabbed the upper hand after back-to-back shots. The Kohawks secured an 11-5 margin in the last six minutes of the first half to lead 30-24.

The Vikings were even with the Kohawks in the third quarter with an 18-18 score. Augie collected a 10-4 run in the first three minutes to even the game, but Coe secured a five-point run to secure the upper hand and stay out in front for the remainder of the quarter. In the final period, Coe ran away with the game scoring the first four points to increase the gap to 10. Augie got as close as four, but Coe secured eight free throws to create separation. Emma Berg secured a buzzer-beater three-pointer but the Kohawks clasped the 68-56 game. 

Berg and Paige Melton led the team with 12 points, Melton also had three rebounds, two assists, and a steal. Lewis followed with 10 points and two rebounds, while Kadence Tatum notched five assists and five ebounds. 

The Scots enter the contest with a 2-2 record and return to action after collecting a 77-51 victory against Mount Mary last Wednesday. Monmouth erased an early deficit and held on to the lead throughout the remainder of the matchup while stretching the advantage to as much as 30 in the third quarter. Ashley Jones led Monmouth with 20 points, five rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Avery Rangel put up 16 points, while Kynlee Stearns notched 12. The Scots have a 0-1 road record with their last away game resulting in a 90-49 loss to Central on November 9. 

Augie holds a 31-5 all-time series record over Monmouth, with the Vikings securing a 76-45 victory last season at Monmouth.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
