EAU CLAIRE, Wis. -- The Augustana Vikings women's wrestling team picked up seven top-five placements at the UWEC 8-Woman Battle on Saturday, with Moni Griffin and Aine Moffit each winning their respective weight classes.
Griffin placed first in the 131 weight division after a 10-0 technical fall in the quarterfinals and followed with back-to-back pins against UW-Stevens Point to take first place. In the 145 weight category, Moffit grabbed a 12-2 technical fall versus Simpson before pinning her foe from UW-Stevens Point. She then defeated teammate Maryam Ndiaye in the championships by a 5-3 decision. Ndiaye got to the title match after picking up two wins by pin. Sandi Pfeil finished second in the 124 weight class after pinning her opponent from UW-Stevens Point before collecting a 7-5 decision in the semifinals. In the 160-weight class, Sawyer Graham finished third after a 10-0 technical fall in the quarterfinals and third-place matchup. Abigail Dennington secured top five with a forfeit in round four of the 131 category, while Liz Ramirez collected fifth in 117 with three 10-0 technical falls.
Bri Bynum secured sixth in the 138 after a technical fall in the consolation semifinals. Jo Orozco finished seventh in the 110-weight division after a bye in the seventh-place match and Lanie Cecala placed seventh in the 138 category after a fall in the prelims before a 6-3 decision in the seventh-place match.
The Vikings will take a small break before hitting the road for their first away dual matchup on Thursday, December 5 against Simpson.
